Petroleum accumulation zones on continental margins.
This book is one of the first comprehensive publications on the detailed (zonal) forecast of offshore petroleum potential. It contains the monographic description of about 500 proved petroleum accumulation zones in the world's well-developed oil-gas-producing basins. Studies of continental margins (the Earth's major belts of oil/gas generation and accumulation) allowed us to (1) distinguish and describe some of the most important indicators, regularities and factors of formation and distribution of zonal field groups of different phase composition and (2) create the basic system of standards for zonal forecasting of petroleum potential for the Russian offshore. The results of the studies, including their methodological aspects, allowed forecasting of the petroleum accumulation zones on the Russian continental shelf, which are considered to be immediate objects for development. The results of this forecast with the estimation of resources, hydrocarbon phase composition and the size of expected discoveries in the zones of possible petroleum accumulation on the Pechora shelf, in the Kara Sea, and on the Sakhalin shelf (performed mainly by VNIGRI research workers) are presented. During preparation of the English version of the book some necessary additions were made.
The book is oriented to perfecting the scientific basis of detailed forecasting the petroleum potential of subaqueous districts and may be used as a reference book for those studying petroleum basins on continental margins.
